Weekend in Lisbon

A friend of Debra's from California was in Lisbon to start a cruise, so in addition to having dinner with her, we decided to spend the weekend there to do some touristy things.  We have not spent a lot of time in Lisbon before since we knew we would not be living there.  It is a 3.5 hour train ride (or slightly shorter car ride) from where we live in the Algarve.  It is a beautiful city, reminiscent of San Francisco particularly with all of the hills.

Gulbenkian Museum

Calouste Gulbenkian was a British-Armenian businessman, who amassed a fortune in the early 1900s primarily through the petroleum industry.  He settled later in life in Portugal, and his private art collection is housed in the Gulbenkian Museum in Lisbon.  It is a vast collection, including textiles, ceramics, scultures and paintings.

Lisbon Shops

We were only interested in shops offering unique items or experiences.

Restaurants

We wanted to sample some cuisines other than Portuguese, since these other foods are harder to get in smaller towns like Tavira.
