Roadtrip to Beja

We decided to take a short roadtrip to Beja and its surrounding area, which is in the Alentejo, a two-hour drive north and slightly east of Tavira. It's an area with strong Moorish influence from the 1300s and lots of castles and city walls due to the conflict between the Christians and the Moors. The Alentejo also has excellent food and wine. We stayed at an AirBNB outside of town, which allowed us to take Ryder with us, which was an adventure in itself.

First Stop: Mertola

You three (I include Ryder) are living the life. What was the Ryder adventure?

The two resident dogs at our AirBNB did not like Ryder at all. We had been told that they were friendly, but it wasn't the case at all, so we had to monitor him at all times. And then we had dinner on one of the main squares in Beja, and Ryder had several incidents with others dogs and kids that made for a difficult meal. Quite the adventure!

Poor guy. Mixing dogs is always a crapshoot it seems We were turned down for an adoption because Rudy was aggressive toward the dog. They were wagging tails and smelling butts and all of a sudden he went off. Then he acted like nothing had happened...but it was too late. Luckily he liked Dixie and we were able to adopt her which has been a blessing.
