NEWS: Apartment Under Construction

Continuing to put down roots in Portugal, we've placed a deposit down to purchase a new apartment which is under construction in Tavira.  We're very excited, though it's tempered by the fact that the apartment will not be completed until (best case) end of 2023.  Like our current rental house, the new apartment will be within walking distance of the center of Tavira, easily accessible to the shops and restaurants that we've come to enjoy.  

​The apartment is part of a 26-unit new development called San Pedro de Tavira (sanpedrotavira.pt), which is being constructed by a local, well-respected builder.   We chose this ground-floor apartment because it's affordable, has a nice-sized patio with a private pool (perfect for Ryder) and has just enough room for us (2 bedrooms, 1-1/2 baths).  We chose an apartment because newly constructed single-family homes are rare and expensive in Tavira, and new construction is preferred so as to get the best quality finishes.  All units in this development have air conditioning, under-floor heating, a central vacuum system, a basement garage, and an A+ energy efficiency rating.  

Another nice feature of this development is that it looks out onto an orchard of an organic farm, meaning we'll have views of nature from the apartment including a sliver of sea view in the distance (even from the ground floor).  Groundbreaking at the construction site was delayed by a few months as the developer awaited the final construction permit from the city of Tavira.  Activity finally began in late June, and now the developer is posting monthly updates on YouTube so that the many anxious, soon-to-be homeowners can be assured of the progress of the project.  ​
