Madeira (Day 4)

As Sunday was supposed to have the best weather of our trip, we decided to take a private full-day tour of the island.  Our tour guide, Ricardo, took us to several scenic lookouts and remote villages in a four-wheel drive vehicle that was able to navigate the narrow, steep streets.
One of the most interesting stops was the Capela Miradouro Sagrada Familia (Lookout Chapel of the Holy Family).  It was built over many years by one man who hauled all of the materials up the hillside himself.  After visiting the chapel and its surroundings, we went to lunch at a countryside restaurant called La Parilla and had espetas, the Madeiran specialty of grilled meats on a skewer.

The last stop was Cabo Girao which not only has great views but also a glass "skywalk," allowing you to see straight down 580 meters below the lookout point.
